Association of Young International Criminal Lawyers

In accordance with its Statute, YICL is led by a group of young professionals. They sit on the Board of the Association and manage its day-to-day operations.

Leah Radatti - President

Leah Radatti is an Australian qualified human rights lawyer who specialises in family violence and sexual and gender-based violence. She is currently working at a community legal centre in Melbourne where she is responsible for leading and implementing a project which aims to improve legal responses to family violence. Prior to working in this position, Leah provided legal advice and representation to asylum seekers who were assessed by the Australian Department of Home Affairs as not meeting the legal criteria for ‘refugee status’ and consequently denied protection. Leah also has experience working in international justice mechanisms, having spent time at both the International Criminal Court and the Kosovo Specialist Chambers. During her time at the ICC, Leah provided critical assistance in drafting both the Prosecutor v Ntaganda and The Prosecutor v Ongwen Reparations Orders. Leah holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) from Victoria University in Melbourne. She also holds an LL.M in International and Comparative Law from Trinity College in Dublin. Her areas of interest include international criminal law, international humanitarian law, Islamic law and the prosecution and adjudication of sexual and gender-based violence crimes.

Dennis Aran Tupaz Abril – Vice President

Dennis Aran Tupaz Abril is a Philippine-based lawyer, law professor, and advocate for legal education and practice. He is a Partner at the Eastern Visayas Law Center in Tacloban City, specializing in litigation, criminal law, real property law, family law, and political law. He also serves as a Legal Consultant to the Office of the Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives. Since passing the Bar in 2020, Dennis has combined legal practice with academia. As a professor, he teaches Public International Law, Private International Law, Human Rights Law, the International Law of Armed Conflict, and Constitutional Law. He played a key role in launching the first Public International Law Conference in Eastern Visayas in 2023. He was appointed the inaugural Director of the DVOREF Center for Legal Aid and Services in 2021, overseeing the DVOREF College of Law’s Clinical Legal Education Program. In 2023, he founded the DVOREF Society of International Law (DSIL), coaching teams in prestigious moot court competitions, including Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition, the Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition, and the IBA-ICC Moot Court Competition in The Hague. Dennis has pursued advanced studies in international law, completing courses at The Hague Academy of International Law and the Singapore Academy of International Law. Actively engaged in international legal discussions, Dennis has served as a judge and evaluator for the IBA-ICC Moot Court Competition and has participated in international law events such as the International Law Weekend in New York. He is a fellow of the Legal Education Advancement Program (LEAP) of the University of the Philippines Law Center and the Philippine Legal Education Board and affiliated with several organizations, including the Asian Society of International Law, International Humanitarian Studies Association, and Amnesty International Philippines.

Adiba Rahmah– Secretary

Adiba Rahmah is a Barrister (unregistered) of England and Wales, holding an LL.M. in Transnational Law from King’s College London. Following on from her success as 2019 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot UAE National Round Champion, she has developed a career in international law and human rights. Her prior experience includes working at the Hellenic Republic National Bioethics Commission alongside government lawyers to develop policy papers drawing from international human rights and health law, as well as at five leading law firms in the UK and UAE on a broad range of private international law matters. Additionally, Adiba has experience providing legal advice and representation, including through the Free Representation Unit before the UK social security tribunals, as well as at The AIRE Centre, where Adiba assisted with legal advice and representation in immigration, asylum and human trafficking cases before domestic tribunals and the European Court of Human Rights. At the KCL Transnational Legal Clinic, she was also responsible for drafting an amicus curiae brief on comparative and international criminal and health law that was accepted by the Colombian Constitutional Court and drawn upon in its landmark 2022 decision on women’s rights in Latin America. Her areas of interest include international human rights law, international criminal law, and international health law.

Santiago Vargas Niño - Director of Social Media and Communications

Santiago Vargas Niño is a qualified Colombian lawyer and BA in Political Science. He holds an Master of Laws in Advanced Studies in Public International Law (cum laude) from Leiden University. Santiago currently serves as Deputy Director of Criminal Affairs at Colombia’s National Directorate of Taxes and Customs and he is a member of the Bureau of the OECD’s Task Force on Tax Crimes and other Financial Crimes. He is also a lecturer in international human rights law and international criminal law at Los Andes University. Before his current appointment, Santiago served in various capacities at the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and Colombia’s Special Jurisdiction for Peace.

Gonzalo Tello Vildosola - Treasurer

Gonzalo Tello Vildosola is a lawyer from Peru with a strong background in international law and constitutional law. Gonzalo has worked as General Coordinator at the Sociedad Peruana de Derecho Internacional and as a legal trainee at the Andean Community.
